So the kensai is out. I just can't accept that he can't effectively use a glaive, so I'm gling to houserule Glaives as a d6 two-handed reach martial weapon. This solves a pickle that I have with the weapons list as well, because I can't accept that the book calls two functionally identical things (Glaive and Halberd) with different names.22 22 comments Best Levyathyn Wizard • 5 yr. ago A glaive is a flat, wide blade on the end of a pole, something like a lengthy cleaver. It's designed for chopping, and is generally short enough to use in relatively close range--not like a pike or a longer spear, designed solely for jabbing.

Weapon type: Glaives are martial weapons, meaning they’re restricted to builds with proficiency in martial weapons. This is usually fine, as glaive’s require a solid investment into martial abilities, like Strength and the Polearm Master feat to be optimized. Damage: A d10 damage dice is on the better end of the spectrum when it comes to ...

If the DM considers the improvised weapon to the the same as a glaive then it will have the heavy and two handed properties. The bottom line is that dual wielding glaives isn't possible RAW. A DM is free to homebrew it if they are interested in doing so. In 5e, a creature size and strength does not affect the properties of the weapons they wield. Can I assume this means we do not get the +2 bonus when wielding two-handed weapons such as a pike, glaive or halberd? Correct, because the character is now holding a melee weapon with two hands (ergo, in two hands). The character doesn't get a pass on this just because there is only one weapon entity.Oct 23, 2014. #25. aramis erak said: For D&D purposes, they are close enough to make no difference, but you could allow for different stunts with them, if you're inclined that way. For example, the glaive is a better choice for cutting the rope on the chandelier, while the halberd can be used to push or pull something at distance better. The Unofficial Description and any notes are licensed cc-by-sa. Player's Handbook (5e) A pole weapon or pole arm is a close combat weapon in which the main fighting part of the weapon is fitted to the end of a long shaft, typically of wood, thereby extending the user's effective range and striking power.

I think 4e had pikes and glaives as well, might be mistaken though. In 5e, pike is an inferior weapon to the halberd and glaive. It was 18 pounds compared to 6 pounds and doesn't work with the bonus attack on polearm master. 5e. RAW, pikes are just worse. They're heavier and don't work with Polearm Master.Glawen 5e. In 5e the lance is a martial melee weapon with two properties: reach and special. As it lacks the finesse and light properties, characters use their Strength bonus* to calculate their bonus to attack with it, and cannot use it for two-weapon fighting without taking the Dual Wielder feat (PHB chapter 6).Sentinel This feat isn't as exclusive as to the weapon used but has some features that make it attractive to someone wielding a weapon like a glaive. Not only does it let your opportunity attacks drop a creature's speed to 0 for the rest of the turn, but it allows you to make opportunity attacks even against creatures performing a Disengage.Although both weapons are identical based on multiple factors like weight, price, properties, and many more, some mechanical differences distinguish the Glaive from the Halberd in the Dnd 5e. Weapon Type: Glaive +1 Enchantment. Ensnaring Strike: Allows you to use Ensnaring Strike as a level 1 spell once per short rest.
